The short answer

Late in a planning course the writing usually turns to results and their audience. Whether your section gives you a data set, asks you to project findings from your own plan, or asks for a dissemination piece, the graded skill is the same: display a number honestly, interpret it against the process data, and translate it for a reader who will not read your methods. Different audiences get different documents from the same findings. Your section may print this as NR 539 or NR539; it is the same course. Chamberlain publishes no syllabi outside Canvas. What NR-539 Week 7 asks for

Fluoride varnish application in a family practice makes a clean worked example because the numbers are small and the interpretation is genuinely ambiguous. A practice sets out to apply varnish at well-child visits for children aged one to five. Over a six-month pilot, 312 eligible visits occur and varnish is documented at 118 of them, up from a documented 41 of 289 in the six months before. The outcome anyone cares about, decay experience, has not been measured and could not have changed yet. So what exactly is being reported, to whom, and with what claim attached. Answering those three questions in order is the whole task of this stage.

Before any of that, interrogate the denominator, because 312 eligible visits is a decision rather than a fact. Eligible by age alone? Age minus the children already varnished elsewhere inside the period? Age minus the visits where the child was acutely ill and the family declined everything offered? Each rule produces a different rate from identical charts, and the one you pick is the one a reader will assume was handed to you rather than chosen. State the rule you applied and the count it removed, in that order, and the rest of the paper inherits a base nobody has to guess at.

Rubric rows here tend to say interpret, communicate, disseminate or translate. That last verb is the one students underestimate. A finding written for a clinical quality committee needs the denominator, the fidelity data and the limitation. The same finding written for the families whose children were treated needs the practical consequence in one paragraph and no ratios at all. Writing both without contradicting yourself, and without inflating the claim as the audience becomes less technical, is precisely what is being scored.

Deliverables at this stage vary widely: a results and discussion section, a one-page summary for leadership, a slide outline, an infographic brief, or a posted response translating a finding for a lay audience. Where a discussion runs, the highest-value move is to state the strongest rival explanation for your own result. Write it as final copy, since posts do not reopen after submission in Canvas.

Six moves for reporting a result without overselling it.

  1. Report the process result before the outcome result

    Say what proportion of the intended delivery actually happened, then present the outcome. Reversed, the reader forms a judgment about effect before learning that a third of the program was never delivered.

  2. Give every figure its numerator, denominator and period

    118 of 312 eligible visits over six months against 41 of 289 in the prior six months. That sentence carries direction, magnitude and base at once, and it cannot be misread the way a percentage alone can.

  3. Choose the display that matches the question

    A run chart for something measured repeatedly over time, a simple bar comparison for before and after, a table when exact values matter more than shape. Decorative charts with three data points cost credibility.

  4. Write the rival explanation yourself

    Seasonal visit mix, a documentation change, a new staff member, attention created by the project itself. Naming the strongest alternative and saying what would distinguish it is the paragraph that separates analysis from advocacy.

  5. Match the claim verb to the design you used

    A single-site before and after supports increased alongside during the period and is associated with. It does not support caused or produced. Verb discipline is directly graded in a course that spends a stage on evaluation design.

  6. Rebuild the same finding for each audience separately

    Leadership wants the decision and the cost. Frontline staff want what changes on Monday. Families want what it means for their child. Write three short versions rather than one compromise document that serves none of them.

Evidence craft for reporting findings

Anchor your result against a published benchmark. A documented application rate means little in isolation and a great deal beside a national or state figure for the same measure. Name the benchmark, its source and its year, and say whether the comparison is fair given differences in population and setting. A benchmark drawn from a population with a different insurance mix, visit frequency or baseline risk is not wrong to cite, but it is wrong to cite silently. Name the difference and say which direction it would push your comparison, and the benchmark becomes evidence rather than decoration.

Follow a reporting standard when one exists for your project type. Improvement and evaluation work has published reporting guidance that tells you which elements a complete write-up contains: context, intervention, study of the intervention, measures, results, limitations. Naming the guideline you followed is a cheap and highly visible signal of rigor.

Never let a percentage travel without its base into a lay document. Simplifying for families means dropping jargon, not dropping denominators. Write that about one in three eligible visits included the treatment rather than presenting a bare thirty-eight percent, and the sentence stays both readable and true.

Keep interpretation inside what your data touched. If you measured documentation, you have evidence about documentation, which is not the same as evidence about what happened in the room. Making that distinction explicitly is graduate-level care and is noticed. It also keeps the written work squarely where it belongs, since documenting or reconstructing clinical activity is never part of a writing manual's territory.

Five mistakes that cost points in this week's territory

  • Outcome reported without delivery data. A change presented as if the program ran fully, when it did not, misleads every reader downstream.
  • Percentages with no denominators. A jump from twelve percent to thirty-eight percent hides whether nine children or nine hundred were involved.
  • Causal verbs on a before and after design. The program reduced is a claim your comparison cannot support, and the evaluation stage already taught you why.
  • Charts chosen for appearance. A three-dimensional pie of two categories signals that the writer is decorating rather than reporting.
  • The lay version making a bigger claim than the technical one. Claim inflation as the audience simplifies is the clearest integrity failure in this stage.

Questions students ask about this stage

My assignment gives me no data. What am I supposed to report?
Report projected findings and label them as projections in the first sentence, then spend the paper on the interpretation logic rather than on the numbers. A strong version presents two scenarios: what you would conclude if the process measures showed high fidelity and the outcome moved, and what you would conclude if fidelity was poor and the outcome was flat. That structure demonstrates exactly the reasoning the rubric wants and cannot be accused of inventing results, because it never claims any occurred. Keep any published comparison figures real and cited even while your own numbers are hypothetical.
How do I present a result that shows the program did not work?
Directly and early, then usefully. Say what did not move, give the numbers with their bases, and go straight to the process data, because a null result with high fidelity means something entirely different from a null result with a third of the intended delivery. Then name what you would change and what evidence supports the change. Null findings written this way frequently score higher than positive ones written carelessly, since the analytic work is more visible. What sinks these papers is hedging: language that keeps the reader guessing whether anything happened, or a discussion that quietly changes the outcome being discussed.
Does a lay summary need citations?
Usually fewer, and placed differently, but the claims still have to be traceable. A one-page piece for families does not carry in-text citations comfortably, so the common solution is a short source line at the foot naming where the figures came from, plus full referencing in the academic portion of the assignment. Check your own guide, because some sections want a formatted reference list on every artifact you submit. Whatever the format, the discipline underneath does not change: nothing appears in the lay version that you could not support in the technical version, and no number appears without its base.
