NR-611 Week 7 Stakeholders and Feasibility: How to Write It

The short answer

Late in NR-611 the written work usually turns from what the evidence supports to whether the change can actually be delivered, and by whom. Stakeholder analysis, resource and workflow feasibility, adoption risk and the ethical review question all sit in this stage, and they are graded on specificity: named roles, named costs, named objections, and a plain statement of what determination the project would need before anything begins. What NR-611 Week 7 asks for

Consider a project adding a developmental screening step for toddlers in a family practice that shares a building with a school district family resource office. The list of people who determine whether it happens is longer than most students expect: the physician who signs off on protocol changes, the practice manager who owns schedule length, the two medical assistants who would administer the tool, the front desk staff who would hand it out, the record analyst who would build the field, the billing lead who cares whether it is captured correctly, and the resource office coordinator who would receive referrals. Each of them can slow the project, one or two can stop it outright, and their reasons differ. A stakeholder section that names roles, states what each one gains or loses, and identifies where authority actually sits is doing the graded work. One that says the project will engage stakeholders has produced a sentence.

Feasibility is the second strand and it is arithmetic rather than attitude. How many additional minutes per visit, multiplied by how many visits per week, equals how much staff time; what the tool or the build costs; what has to stop to make room. Proposals fail in real practice settings for a small number of predictable reasons, and naming the most likely one for your project, then writing the mitigation, is worth more than a page of general enthusiasm.

The boundary, unchanged and absolute. Written and preparatory work is what a manual or a tutor supports. Practicum hours, hour logs, contact counts, mentor and preceptor evaluations, site documentation and signatures are your own record of work you personally performed, and they are never drafted, reconstructed or estimated with outside help. No one contacts your mentor, your site, a school partner or any community organization on your behalf; the conversations that produce a stakeholder analysis are yours to have. What you write about those conversations arrives de-identified where individuals or families are involved, and described by role rather than by name where colleagues are involved.

The NR-611 Week 7 method, step by step

Six moves for a feasibility case a site would take seriously.

  1. List stakeholders by role and by decision

    Write who does what, then write what each one can decide: approve, block, delay, or simply absorb the work. Mapping authority separately from involvement is what makes the analysis usable.

  2. State what each stakeholder gains and loses

    Interest is not the same as support. A medical assistant gaining a clearer workflow and losing four minutes per visit has a mixed position, and writing it honestly predicts the resistance you will meet.

  3. Do the time arithmetic explicitly

    Minutes per encounter, encounters per week, hours per month, translated into whose hours. This paragraph is where feasibility becomes real and where most proposals go silent.

  4. Name what has to stop

    Nothing is added to a full clinic day without something else moving. Identify the displaced task and say who agreed it could be displaced, or say that the question is still open.

  5. Write the single most likely failure and its mitigation

    Staff turnover during rollout, a build queue delay, a champion leaving, seasonal volume. One specific risk with a specific response beats a table of generic risks scored low, medium and high.

  6. Address the ethical review question plainly

    Say what determination the project would require under your site's and your school's processes, who makes that determination, and that no data collection begins before it is obtained. State it as a requirement rather than as an opinion about the project's category.

Evidence craft for feasibility writing

Cite implementation sources for the barriers you name. Published evaluations describe what actually went wrong in similar projects, and citing one turns your risk paragraph from speculation into an informed prediction. Name the setting the evaluation came from.

Show the arithmetic rather than the conclusion. Three additional minutes across roughly 60 eligible visits per week is about three hours of staff time per month is a sentence a practice manager can argue with, which is exactly what makes it credible.

Attribute anything you were told at the site carefully. Write that the practice manager indicated the schedule could not absorb additional time in the morning block, by role and without a name, and keep it clearly marked as site information rather than as published evidence.

Use the language your institution uses for review determinations. Quality improvement and research are distinguished differently by different bodies, and the safe formulation is that the project will be submitted for determination and will proceed according to the outcome, rather than asserting in advance which category applies.

Protect people in every example. Colleagues appear as roles, families appear de-identified with age ranges and no dates, and partner organizations appear by type where naming them is not required. A feasibility section is not a place where identifiers add anything.

Five mistakes that cost points in this week's territory

  • Stakeholders listed without authority mapped. Knowing who is involved does not tell a reader who can stop the project, which is the question that matters.
  • Universal enthusiasm assumed. A stakeholder section in which everyone benefits has not been thought about, because someone always absorbs the work.
  • No arithmetic. Feasibility asserted without minutes, volumes and hours is an opinion about your own project.
  • Generic risk tables. Five risks rated medium with no local reasoning demonstrate a template rather than an analysis.
  • Ethical review declared rather than requested. Announcing that a project is exempt is not a determination anyone is entitled to make for themselves.

  • Every stakeholder appears with a role, a stake and a decision they control
  • At least one stakeholder is written as having a mixed or negative position
  • The resource section shows a calculation, not a conclusion
  • The displaced task is named and its owner identified
  • The primary risk is specific to this site and carries a specific mitigation
  • The review determination is described as requested rather than assumed

Questions students ask about this stage

Nobody at my site will give me cost figures. How do I write the resource section?
Cost the project in time rather than in dollars and say why. Practices rarely release salary data and almost always know how many minutes a task takes, so build the calculation from minutes, volumes and roles, then express the result as staff hours per month attributed to specific positions. Where a material cost exists, a screening form, a licensed tool, a printed handout, use a published or vendor list price and cite where it came from. Close with one sentence naming what you could not obtain and what a site would need to add before approving the project. That transparency is treated as rigor rather than as a shortfall, and it produces a section a practice manager can complete rather than one they have to reconstruct.
How do I write about a stakeholder who is actively opposed?
Write the opposition as reasoning rather than as obstruction, because it usually is. A staff member resisting an added screening step in a clinic already running twenty minutes behind is protecting something real, and a proposal that acknowledges the constraint is far more likely to survive than one that treats resistance as a communication problem. Describe the position by role, state what is behind it, and then say what would have to change for the objection to be answered: time returned elsewhere, a task reassigned, a trial period with a review date. If you cannot answer it, say so. A named unresolved objection is honest project writing, and graders in a concluding experience read it as maturity rather than as weakness.
Does my project need ethical review if it is just a practice change?
That is a determination for your institution and your site to make, and the correct thing to write is that you will submit for it and follow the outcome. Programs and organizations draw the line between quality improvement and research differently, and the factors that push a project toward research review tend to be the intent to generalize findings beyond the setting, the collection of data beyond what care requires, and publication plans. Describe your project's features against those factors neutrally, state which review pathway you have initiated and with whom, and say plainly that no data collection begins before the determination is issued. Then add the privacy paragraph: what data is collected, in aggregate form, held where and for how long.
